Future plan

The Gian Charter Academy is in the final stage of submitting a petition to Los Angeles Unified School District for approval of a charter school – Kindergarten to 8^th grade.  If approved, we will start with Kindergarten to 3^rd grade in September 2013. The school curriculum will include Punjabi and also Spanish in middle school.

Start date – We plan on starting Kindergarten to 2^nd grade in September 2013.

Location – Khalsa Care Foundation, Pacoima CA.

What are charter schools?

• Charter schools are public schools.
• OVERSEEN BY THE LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT and CALIFORNIA STATE BOARD OF EDUCATION
• Tuition free
• Open to any student who wishes to attend. Charters cannot have selective admissions.
• Charter schools allow parents, organizations, or community groups to restore, reinvent, and reenergize our public school system.
• Choice is a powerful tool for parents seeking educational equity and equal access to quality education for their children.
• Currently there are 912 Charter schools in California with a total of 365,000 students.
  • In California, charter schools are required to hire credentialed teachers for core and college preparatory subjects just like all other public schools.

For petition approval, we need child commitments for Fall 2013 from children Kindergarten to 2^nd grade

Sunday October 14, 2012, we will have commitment forms available at the Gurdwara for parents to fill out for the Fall 2013 school year – please stop by our table and fill out a form
